If you've enjoyed the recent stripped, scuttling productions of Rockwell, ASC et al, then it's pretty much a given that drum 'n bass minimalist Bop will push your buttons. Already big in the scene, the producer impressed with his debut LP for Hospital offshoot MedSchool, 2009's Clear Your Mind, and on this formidable follow-up he puts his disciplined drum programming to similarly varied use — 'Sunrain' is lush, Border Community-style tech-house, while Jalex collab 'The End Is The Beginning' essays haunted future-garage inna Burial or Throwing Snow style, and luminous video game melodies ooze in and around frantically footworking drums on '8-Bit Cosmos' .The sinewy techno-funk of 'Simple Think' is a stand-out, coming over like Recloose if he was UK soundsystem-reared, but in the main it's those tracks with a strong d'n'b skeleton that most enchant: 'I Need You' (all phased sci-fi synths, pellucid bass bumps and 'Every day of my life' vox loops) and the radically sparse 'Mourning Air'. Really, though, this is an album that with wide appeal and deserves the attention of anyone with a taste for taut ‘n’ technicolour dance music. Dope.
