While remaining true to their psychedelic-drone and "earth music" ethos, The Magic Carpathians' Denega travels in an extraordinarily ambitious direction: blending samples of seals and other sea creature's voices (done while exploring the Baltic seashore) with contemporary folk instrumentation and a minimalist electronic sensibility. Not only is it great, what's most appealing is how lucid this seemingly difficult exchange is.
They have blossomed into a beautiful ethereal folk combo that resides somewhere between their previous work in Atman and a more organic ambient sound.
