Formed 1969, in Dusseldorf, with the line-up of: Hans Wende (guitar), Horst Wagner (bass), Rolf Selbach (drums) and Peter Figge (keyboards), Flaming Bess went through many changes in the 10 years before they released an album. Only after a lengthy hiatus in the mid-1970's did they really attempt to get it together and break-out beyond occasional rehearsals and local gigs.
They got their first break when featured on the music programme "Rockstudio" on WDR, and the interest generated led to them recording and self-producing their debut LP Tanz der Gotter, a concept album.
Reputedly it's an elaborate and sophisticated progressive like a mixture of Eloy and Camel. Their second album VERLORENE WELT, is quite different, as it presented a unique style that involved heavy rock numbers, with dramatic and operatic elements, a wealth of keyboards, and strongly featured guest female vocalist Marlene Krukel. Instrumentally they were superb.
Peter Figge, Hans Wende and Achim Wierschem continued with the band Key as the record industry forced them to change the bandname. In the 1990's they re-formed Flaming Bess, releasing two different versions of the FATA MORGANA album.

Since 1994 the band line up was joined by Dieter Joswig (who came back ) and the much younger musician Claas Reimer. Both are now adding their ideas to the typical sound of Flaming Bess.
Flaming Bess now released their 4th official Album " FINSTERE SONNE / THE BLACK SUN". This double CD contains a brandnew Fantas Story about the godess of light — one version in English- and one in German language.
If you ask us how we wold like to describe the actual style of Flaming Bess we would say the style is somewhere between old fashioned prog rock and really modern Electronic Music — we are still not composing any charts stuff but progressive music — in the real sense of the word. All songs on this new album have been composed, arranged and produced from 2001 to 2004.
